The Gift Academy is a flight training organization that was founded by Mary Latimer, with her husband Lawrence serving as head instructors, and her daughter Tamara Griffith and granddaughter Amanda Griffith serving as instructors as well. The academy offers a week-long training program for women only, which was inspired by the WASP Women's Airforce Service Pilots program. The training takes place in Vernon, Justin, and Elk City, and is based on part 61 style flight training, which means there is no strict syllabus or plan of action other than those required by the FAA. The academy is in need of sponsors for their airplanes, which were recently donated, to offset the costs of training for GIFT Girls who participate in the program. They are also looking for instructors to volunteer their time and donations of various supplies and equipment. The academy is open to hosting their training program at other flight schools or airports and is willing to provide ground instruction and coordination to help make it happen. Donations can be made using their donate button, and every $5 buys a gallon of gas for a participant while $25 buys gas for an hour of flight in the C150.
